Deja Vu

Okay, just what in the name of freaky weirdness is déja vu?
I was eating another delicious carb filled and not even slightly boring bowl of Ready Brek this morning, while listening to the Paramour. I put my bowl down and then the back door blew open and the Paramour said...'we can grab a bite to eat before hand if you-'then the phone rang.
But God Damn it, just before it did I was already rolling in my head with 'hey I've seen this, I know what-'
Deja Vu, a big one.
Now I only get this now and again, and it's annoying that I"m NEVER quick enough to yell 'the phones about to ring!" or whatever before it happens, for that would be most cool and also I'd consider getting my own TV show if I could predict shit. I could do Derek Acora-escue shenanigans, 'eeee by heck love, yer husband, 'as 'e passed? Oh yes, 'e's telling me to tell yer 'e were a sick man. 'e died in an accident? Aye, that's what 'e's saying, one the say of the accident 'e were feeling right poorly. Oh ah feel him now, I feel him, do you feel him? DO yer? 'e says to tell you 'e's here with yer mudder, oh that's yer mudder beside yer? No no, sorry, the spiritual lines were caught in a spiritual storm, he's telling me no, yer grandmudder...did she were glasses? Yes, that's her... yes, ah don't cry.'

Anyway, I would like to know just what the hell deja vu is? No Matrix waffle either. Anyone? And what's the most deja vu-y thing to happen to you, and have any of you every managed to beat it and say what was about to happen seconds before it did?

It's supposed to have something to do with the left and right sides of your brain going slightly out of synch, or something similar...

The best ever (induced) deja vu is at the dentists when they give you the gas - I got it one time and knew exactly what the guy on the radio and the dentist himself were going to say before they said it. It rocked, I felt really really clever :)

Oh Sheep, isn't he somehting else.
But how Caro? How? Have we already heard it/seen it seconds before our brain registered the occasion? Where are they Dockies, surely one of them will have a credible reason.

Many years ago I was at a Polish film and about 20-30mins before the end I saw how it was going to end, frame by frame. And then it ended that way, exactly.

Somehow I knew you were going to write about this today.

Happens to be all too regularly, and I've got used to it at this stage.

But I also now keep my mouth shut when I know something is going to happen. I was prone to interrupting a conversation and telling the other people what they were about to say and how the discussion would end.

This never went down too well. So I stopped.

It's never for anything important though, dammit. Mundane things like shopping or resturaunts. Never the bloody lotto numbers.

Did you see him yesterday on Morning Ireland or Ireland AM or whatever it is?

They were doing a ghost tour of the TV3 studio, it was mostly just careers he was sensing.

I always think it's pretty cool to have a déjà vu - it doesn't take much to keep me happy, eh? ;)
Sorry I can't help you with a decent explanation though.
I don't know why Friday is Ginger Day either - what's your scientific explanation for that?
(OK, so I freely admit I've become addicted, and now I can't wait for your ginger madness every Friday - what have you done to me!!??)

I'll just cut across ye all and say that I've known about the Neandertals Ginger gene for over five years.

They were trying to spice up first year Archaeology. Those of the Western Ireland persuasion weren't too happy with that lecture.

I think the docs should explain it, if they can do it without it sounding like quackery or 2 tap lobotomies.

Just wanted to wish you well in the Marathon. I did the Dublin one in 1982 (I think). Anyway, you've done the proper training. Some advice, run at a pace slightly slower than you feel you can. This will help post 15/16 miles. Lube up well, perhaps even carry a small tin of vaseline in your hand. Drink plenty. Don't drink 6 pints of Guinness and 2 shorts the night before. Have someone prepare a hot bath, meal, wine, candles and massage later.

I saw or read something somewhere that said deja vu is what happens when events go directly into your memory, bypassing all the normal editing processes we use when we apprehend something that's just occurring. So we're kind of experiencing something and remembering it simultaneously.

So they say and it sounds good to me. The irony for me is that I've forgotten all my deja vu stories.

BBB! I have rum, limes and a load of ice ready for Monday night, and Chumley Finn was kind enough to provide me with this remaarkable stuff called 'Glide' that kills the chafing/chaffing stone dead. Terrific stuff all together, but thank you for the best wishes, so sweet, I will indeed be taking it very handy.
