Sleeping.

I went to bed just after nine last night, I would say I was asleep by twenty-five past. I woke up about ten minutes ago say quarter to ten. This means I was out for over twelve hours, no need to get up for the loo, nothing, just out cold.
Now I've had a heavy weekend so clearly I needed it. The only time I ever slept longer than this was in my early twenties, when I pretty much slept twenty hours straight through after working three night shifts in a row in my shitty job, WHILE attempting to make it to some classes in college during the day. On the friday of that week I went to one double class in the morning, came home, went to bed around midday and woke up the following morning around eight.
Those are extreme circumstances, but still I am impressed with the body's ability to put manners on us from time to time.
So-while I ply myself with coffee- I have a question.
What's the longest you have ever slept in one singular go?

28 hours, after I had worked 24 days in a row 12-16 hours a day and hadn't slept much because I was out drinking, oops! Had three days off, went to bed at about 3am and woke up at 7am, I thought it was the same day, turns out, it wasn't, I was well pissed off that I has "wasted" the time sleeping! I only woke up because I really needed to pee.

28 hours!? That's not sleeping, you clearly had slipped into a light coma. I am super impressed with that. And snarf to the 'wasted time'. I'm guessing your body just shut down for a recharge.

12 hours kip - I am sooooo jealous. I would broker a deal with Beelzebub himself if I could have an unbroken night's sleep, of even 8 hours.

Longest? Only about 9 or 10 I'd say years ago. I have WAY too much energy...

I was like a zombie for a few days previous to it, my boyfriend at the time kept poking me to check I was alive, I was, apparently I was talking in my sleep as well. I had consumed what I like to call "A special hot chocolate" before it, I only normally have this when I am in a wreck with the dreaded period pains but my body wouldnt relax as it hadn't had a chance to in three weeks, it's basically hot chocolate made with full fat milk, a good lash of Hennessy (yum!) and about enough dubey for a joint, and then I was gone for 28 hours, maybe it was a coma...hmm!

Sorry darling Sinéad, but according to mah sistah once you've popped out a sproglet you are never allowed a full night's sleep ever again. Ever.
Babs, I like the sound of this 'SHC'. Sounds like something I might need to look into further.

2 full days and nites on the lash when a friend got dumped by her long-term fella (slightly unhealthy way to deal with problems, but it was great craic).

No sleep and much bodily abuse for nearly 48hrs = comatose sleep for 14hrs.

It's nothing for me to sleep 10 hours a night all through the winter. Something about keeping the thermostat down really low, and having a down-filled duvet plus a regular duvet on top of that makes your body want to hibernate whether you planned on it or not.
When I had my wisdom teeth out and was taking some kind of powerful painkiller, I was awake for 4 hours or less per day for a week. Talk about a Rip Van Winkle experience...

Less than 4 hours a day? Yikes. Although, having so many wisdom teeth out, double yikes with morphine on top.
My oldest friend hurt her back yesterday, trapping a nerve, she is currently on pain injections and morphine patches and still in agony. I really hope she falls asleep for a few hours.

Hmm, can't rightly recall... but I suspect a major jet-lag catch-up after a much delayed flight from Montreal (10 hours-ish). I cannot sleep when travelling. It's easy for me to work overnight if needs be and catch up next night.

Babs's 'SHC' could catch on!

The SHC is great, it was invented for me by a good Chef Friend of mine, I was in his house in the middle of nowhere miles from a shop, I needed pain relief for the period pains, we had NO pain killers, we had Hennessey and dubey, so he made it for me and I slept the pain off, then I started making them for myself when I needed to relax or kill the pain. My ultimate one is when I am in agony with cramps (sometimes they are that bad I cannot walk-ow!) I have a SHC, a few Tylenol (imported from USA) a slice of toast with loads of real butter, and a fun size Mint Aero, pure bliss, you have to get nice hot chocolate though, none of this Options bollox! You need the extra fat to keep you going for a day or so!!

I reckon proper cocoa would do the trick...

I think my max is somewhere between 12 and 14 hours. Not nearly as impressive as some others here! Though I do remember being pretty much bed-bound for an entire weekend once. It was when I was in my 20's, going to school full time, working full time, and drinking full time. And it wasn't even due to all the work, school and drinking - it was the flu! I had a lovely roommate at the time and I would wake up every 10 hours or so and shout, "STEPHEN - TEAAAAA!!!!" and he would bring it, bless him. I'd take a couple of sips and be gone again. From Friday night until Monday afternoon - damn near dead.

I use Twinnings Hot Chocolate, you have to really stir it though, it doesnt just dissolve like cocoa. Or Valerona is good but I get that from a wholesale supplier with my chocolate so I don't know if that's commercially available.

In my wild youth before I met Mr. M, I liked the powdered party favors and on several occasions slept for 18-20 hours after a binge.
