Motivation for Fatcats and possibly Fatcat chumlies!

Hidy ho! And another fine Satdee rolls around, with sunshine and all sorts. Series two of the Wire, I haz it. What did I do last night? Why eat pizza and drink beer and watch it. Huzzah!
A goodly week this week. Busy busy, but feeling fine. Once April rolls in I'm going to pick up the pace a little and start my marathon training. It will be interesting- to me anyway- to see how much easier it is to train coming off the back of a year's worth of running instead of starting relatively cold.
But anyhoo, enough about future plans, let's have a gawk at the week gone by.

A wibbly wobbly hoochy start to the week not withstanding (Paddy's day)

On Sunday I went forth to the gym and I kicked my own ass.
Push press- 22k x10x 3
Pull ups on grav, a surprisingly strong 40 with 30k counterbalance, I believe I will drop down 5k next time to 25k.
120 mother fucking bench dips, broken into set of 30 and inter spaced with the pull ups.
I hit the rowing machine next, 49:10 for 10k, arms almost failing on the last five minutes, head the fieriest little lobster that could.
Finished off with a twenty minutes core stabiliser and stretchingly painful cool down.

Then happy as an exhausted clam I took myself off to the paramour's Pappy's house for Sunday dinner, where upon I was crushed and devastated to discover a dearth of mushy peas.
I was also semi crushed the next day when I could barely move my arms. In fact they weren't really right until Wednesday.

Wednesday- Box jumps, a mere 20, but only because I was warming up.
Crossovers 6k each arm x10 reps x 3 sets
another 10 sodding box jumps.
straight over to the treadmill, I'm running in blocks of 15 minutes to see if I can increase speed. To wit, I finished up on 46 mins just slightly under 8k. I could have pushed on no problem, but I want to hold off and actually stick to the blocks/plan and increase the speed and stamina. Distance has never been my problem, speed has.
15 minutes cool down and most hideous stretching.

Thursday- 10 k rowing time, 48:40. I was trying to get it bouncing off the 45 minute mark, I would even have taken 46, but it was not to be. Next time. Damn you achy breaky arms!!

Friday- yeah, good luck with that.

Satdee! I go now to meet Gimmie and we are going to do a steady five miler in the park. Will the beer convert to sugar do we think? Is pizza the right sort of carb? Who can say?
Hope you're all feeling as chipper as I am and are having a great weekend.

Am I commenting on the blog of the Bionic man. I have a son who works out, and it was not until now that I realize how much works is involved.

After the 4 miles on Sunday, it was a DVD week for me--yoga, pilates, whatever. I did manage to do 2 miles in 20 minutes on the treadmill on Tuesday (apologies for having been suddenly stricken with alliteration). It was an improvement of the performances I've put in since the last round of mildly debilitating tendon crap, which is sad but there you go.
Random pushups, sets of 10, throughout the day, throughout the week. Waiting on the water to boil? Pushups! Waiting on a 400-page .pdf to download? Pushups!
The hour-long "power yoga" turns out to be awesome and so physically taxing that I didn't mind not running on Thursday (shin splints I'd rather not aggravate too much during my second 4-miler this Sunday).
Wish me luck for tomorrow, and cross your fingers that the snow (yes, the snow) either melts completely or is cold and hard enough to run on without soaking my feet.

Hey FMC
Sounds like a super week for you! I'm always so impressed with your rowing. I barely do 500 metres in 5 and a half minutes and I'm knackered. I'll try do better! Good week for me in the sense that after the downer of realising I was overtraining I took a couple of easy days and I think my superpowers have returned. Did a 20 mile training run on Thursday as fast as I could push it and it restored a lot of my confidence. Only 3 weeks till my marathon and one more lonely long run....

I just want to say thank you, fmc. Thank-you for causing this to be the second day now I have woken up singing "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard." Really, I mean, cheers for that particular ear-worm. Damn you, fmc! Damn you to Rick Astley songs for ever! I wish a plague of Stock, Aitken and Waterman ear-worms on your daily routines. Pop princess Sonia while you're washing your face;
"I Should Be So Lucky" when you're putting the bins out; and the killer, "Never Gonna Give You Up!" while you're in the supermarket - in public!!

Gah! Who will rid me of this turbulent piece-of-shit song?

Bloated? Yep.
It's back to the gym this week, for sure.
Have fun out there with Gimme.

Managed to get up early and work out Tuesday, Wednesday, and treat myself to a second workout Tuesday AFTER work. Alas,it was SO dark Thursday morning, there was no way I could get up. Friday is my rest day, plus Thursday night I had gone to see the Pogues so I had many pints and stayed up too late anyway.

Today, a lot of yoga stretches to start, then 40 minutes on the elliptical. Had to abbreviate because one of the cats had to go to the vet. (No, not Luna this time - whew!)

Tomorrow I'll do 50 minutes on the elliptical, plus lunges, squats, free weights. If the weather is good, I'll start raking and cleaing up the yard to get it ready for my spring gardening.

I have a flower catalogue and I know how to use it.

Well, some weeks are tougher than others for sure and I'm certain next week will be just dandy for y'all who don't feel so dandy this week.
Aisling, that's terrific news. And EEK so close now. One long run and then taper taper right? so exciting, I'm sure you'll absolutely fly it.
Grims good luck tomorrow.
Jake, no bionic, I wish. But welcome and feel free to add to the pain.
Kissy kissy everyone esle, except Sam, for Sam I just want to say...

'na na na na na, the boy are waiting, na na na na na, warm it up.'

finally cleared through enough school and lab work to set up a feasible workout schedule. i'm opting for a beginner's triathalon training plan, and am trying to talk myself into signing up for a 'mini' tri in the summer.... it fits in perfectly with my training, so we'll see.

i don't have my week's workout in front of me, but the gist of it is as follows:

3 days i did yoga and core work
2 days i went swimming (still new to the sport - 50 yd warm up, 50 yd swim, 50 yd cool down)
3 days i've taken the dogs on a 20 minute fast-paced walk.
1 day i made it in to lift - planning on upping it all to 3 next week, which was the original plan anyway.

the gist of it all is that i'm pleasantly sore, but not in excruciating pain. seems like this plan starts off right about where i need to be.

also found out that my favourite yoga class will be picking up again permanently on tuesday mornings, so i'll be up to 4 days of yoga.

once classes end i'm thinking of signing up for an aikido class. obviously i'm fighting against this grad school gut that so many sport around here.

cheers all!

So I was singing it, right, and, wholly unbidden, I did that thing where you clasp your hands together and look as if you're stirring an enormous porridge pot. Only there was no porridge. Just me pelvicly thrusting in my dressing gown.

I would drown myself but drowning's too good for a person who has pelvicly thrusted and done the porridge thing in her "homely" dressing-gown, in front of her children.

But! I was at the gym a wee while ago and climbed 2000 steps on the stepper, did some conditioning machines afterwards and now I feel fab! I can not be brought down, not by a mere ear-vurm! Nope, not even that one.

Happy chocolate day tomorrow!

Hey FMC, sounds like you hit it hard this week. Mine went thus:

Sunday rest

Monday 90 mins indoor bike wattage training, these are getting harder and harder. After testing we are giving four zones and the watts associatied. Z1 = resting , Z2 = working hard bit not too much, Z3 is a 7 out of 10 and Z4 = killing yourself, you can only stay there for a minute or 2 max. This week all the training was done in Z3 and pushing up at speed into Z4. The good thing is I am pumping out 80 watts higher than my highest Z4 number. I've gotten a lot stronger! Time to retest.

Tuesday - 30 minute run, followed by 6 x 15 sec hill sprints, finish 10 minutes run.

Wednesday - 90 mins indoor bike wattage training

Thursday - derailed by minor sinus infection.

Friday - 3000 metre swim.

Saturday 50 mile bike ride.

On Tuesday I played football for the first time since last October. Felt great afterwards. Slight muscle pain, but nothing much. Made plans to go to gym, but was thwarted on all occasions. Must. Do. Better.

Good work chumlies! Oh how I feel so much better knowing other folk are suffering along too.
Doctor J, try go in the morning if you have time, get it out of the way so to speak, much easier to stick to that way.
My secret? Music. Plenty of music.
Hope everyone is having a terrific weekend. I and decidedly hungover look like a cross between a panda and a clown, so a plown then.
We are going to the paramour's pappy's house for Easter Sunday Lunch though, huzzah!

Quickroute - My secret is I have a TV in the room with my exercise equipment. It doesn't have sound, so I just turn on the closed captioning and put a CD in the boombox. Without something visual to hold my attention, my cardio workouts would be impossible. I'm terribly bored with weights and stuff - the repetition is just so tedious - so without TV and music it would NEVER happen at all.

I have never trained in the morning. I'm really not a morning person. I guess in the interests of experimentation, i will give it a go.
