Dog update.
I went-armed with the paramour's camera- to have a chat with the lady who owns the dog that scared the living bejayous out of me the other day. Turns out- Surprise!- it's not her dog, it's her husband's dog and she 'wouldn't harm you.' She also said the dog wasn't 'let out' but that sometimes she 'got out'. I said that it was her job it make sure the dog 'didn't get out' and that if I saw her out again I'd report her, no matter which way the dog managed it. She then once again said 'I know she looks vicious but she wouldn't hurt you.' I said I had no interest in testing that theory.
It was interesting to note that while she was saying this the dog was panting and pacing behind the large wooden fence the kept the dog to the back of the property. It was also interesting to note that the dog was back there -secure- while the green itself was populated with kids.
Anyway I said my piece and she wasn't being a bitch about it, and she agreed that the dog shouldn't be able to get out of her front garden through the neighbour's garden and actually pointed out where they erected some sort of chicken wire barrier between the fencing to stop her using that way out. I nodded as I looked at this, but once again wondered if it was THAT safe then why was the dog in the back right now.
Either way, she assured me the dog won't be out alone in the future and that I needn't worry. I said I wasn't worried because if I DID see her out again I'd just phone the police and let them worry about it.
She didn't get all bitchy about that remark and she wasn't being a weapon during the whole conversation so I wasn't either. We said our goodbyes in a civil manner and I went on down to the path I usually run on, just down from her house. Behind me up the bank the kids played and sprayed each other with water pistols. I took a picture of the river, one because I was feeling relieved- I hate confrontations no matter how right I feel- and two, because I want you to see how beautiful it is.
I think I handled the situation correctly, but I mean what I say, if I see the dog out again I'm just going to ring the Gardai. I'll spin by there a few times over the next few week to see if she's as good as her word. I'm hoping she is.

Oh thanks be to jaysus for that. The women seemed amicable and responded well to threats. I was in the morgue last night, one of the lads was like, "Nonny, shut the fuck up about it or I'll kill the cunting dog myself". I had visions of a teary eyed nanny rocking back and forth, morning the loss of her beloved pet. Heres to common courtesy and my utmost respect to you chicken licken.

You did the right thing by being firm and making it clear you'd call the guards. I don't know how well or long chicken wire will hold a big dog.
Omar killed his first squirrel today and he's only just 5 months old.
Run up and down the fence with a string of sausages round your neck to see if the slavering hound is as secure as the old bat says.

Hah Medbh! Go Omar. He'll be like CG's dog, water and squirrels are his twin obsessions.
Docky, the back fence will definitely hold her, not so sure about the chicken wire, but we'll see.

It sounds to me like this woman has a dog she won't be able to handle as it grows up.
Not to be the harbinger of doom and all but the dog is responding to her owner's call at the moment but there may come a time when she's older and will 'see red'.
I wouldn't want to be there, I wouldn't want my kids to be there and I wouldn't want my 'fabulous new age super daddy parent' gimmie to be there.
Fuck no CL, me neither. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that dog when she discovers how powerful she really is. Her reluctance to come back when called is not a good sign.
Right, off to watch Team America. No doubt I'll be singing 'America, Fuck yeah!' all day tomorrow.

I can't believe this bs. Reading FMC's account, I am seriously concerned for the children living in the vicinity of that animal. In fact I am having visions of a distraught mother mourning the loss of her child. My young cousin was viciously savaged by a dog, he survived the attack but was left with permanent scars to his face and body. What are we waiting for? We shouldn't give a fuck what that woman feels, I would rather err on the side of caution. She hasn't shown herself to be a responsible owner. I'd get the guards in and the DSPCA - at least your conscience will be clear when the inevitable happens.

Orlaith, I suppose-as the dog as never attacked before- we must give this woman the benefit of the doubt. I've been, I've spoken, I've said my piece. If I see the dog loose again I won't hesitate to call the Gardai and be a witness to her recklessness. This is regardless if the dog is sitting outside the gate sunning herself or acting in a threatening behaviour.
What can I say, I'm zero tolerant. It might sound daft but it's a child protection issue from what I've read and understood. This is about protecting the children who live near this potentially dangerous animal. Let's face it, maybe you won't be around the next time this dog runs loose but maybe a young child is. When my cousin was attacked, neighbours of the dog-owners all came out and said they were waiting for something like that to happen. I know you're only taking the woman's feelings into consideration, but perhaps it's in everybody's best interest if the dog is re-housed with an owner who can ensure that he doesn't pose a threat to the public.
by the way, not many people would have taken the time to speak to the owner to express your concern so well done for doing so!
I don't think you sound daft at all, I think you sound perfectly right. But in absence of the animal actually doing anything other than barking at someone the Gardai won't do any more than I did, ie speak to the owner. It probably would have been better to get a visit from the DSPCA, but on this occasion I chose to speak with her myself.
Now a visit from the DSPCA or Gardai might be far more yikesome than a visit from me, but she knew I was deadly serious when I said I'd report her dog if it was loose again, and she herself said she would make it her business to make sure that didn't happen. Bearing all this in mind I suppose the best outcome we can hope for is that she finds my visit a wake up call and she makes sure the dog is secure in future.
it might be that I'v made the wrong decision in this case-and I REALLY hope I haven't- but she seemed genuine when she said the dog wouldn't be out again and she wasn't being an aggressive ass about my visit, so we'll see. I can easily run that way a couple of times a week. I can only say what I've said before, if I see the dog out I'll phone the gardai, immediately.

Hmm, this is what I just commented on the original post... 'As almost savaged bitee when I was a kid I think an immediate formal complaint to the dog warden is in order. It's not your call what happens to the dog, it's your call what could happen to a human being.'
My opinion hasn't changed. We have three big dogs, keeping them fenced in is a constant operation. Even when they occasionally get out they do not chase people, they just want to go on a ramble and they actively avoid people.
This dog is bored and unsocialised, it is very territorial and it chases people aggressively. It will attack someone eventually.
I don't even understand how I finished up right here, however I assumed this post was once good. I don't understand who you are however certainly you are going to a famous blogger in case you are not already.
